Born 65 years ago in Tampin, Negeri Sembilan, Professor Haslee Sharil Lim Bin Abdullah is the youngest of seven siblings. His parents were rubber tappers and farmers in Kampung Renggoh and Air Mawang, Johol.
 
He spent his primary school years at SRJK (C) Pay Chee, Tampin and SRJK (C) Chung Ching, Kuantan. He obtained his Lower Certificate of Education at SMK Chong Hwa, Kuantan. He then went to Technical Institute, Kuantan where he obtained his Malaysian Certificate of Education in 1973.
 
In January 1975, he was accepted into Malayan Teachers’ College, Penang. His passion in teaching developed and he started his teaching career on 3rd January 1977 in Felda Pasir Besar secondary school.
 
In 1983, he took up a Specialist Teaching Certificate course in Language Institute, KL. Subsequently, in 1984, he was offered the Bachelor of Education (TESL) in UPM.
 
He took up counseling as his minor and graduated in 1987 as the inaugural recipient of the Dean’s Shield. He then served in Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Juasseh, Kuala Pilah.
 
His interest and passion in counseling resulted in him enrolling in the Master of Science (Counseling) program in UPM and graduated in 1992. He joined University of Malaya as a lecturer in 1996 and obtained his Ph.D in 2002.
 
He was an active member in the National Committee of Healthy Lifestyle Campaign particularly in the Mental Health Promotion programs started in 1998. He was also active in Perkama International, Malaysia Mental Health Association and Asia Pacific Education Counselor Association.
 
He was appointed as a Lembaga Kaunselor Board member in 2012. Prior to that, in 2006, he was promoted as a counseling associate professor. He joined USIM as a professor of counselling in 2015.
 
He was awarded as one of the Tokoh Kaunseling by Lembaga Kaunselor in 2016. In 2018, he was appointed as a Perkama International fellow. His research interest is on positive psychology and he pioneered the study of resilience in Malaysia.
 
He has supervised many postgraduate students’ research. To date, more than 10 have completed their Ph.D under his supervision. On top of that, about 1,000 counselors were trained in undergraduate and postgraduate counseling programs he taught in since 1997.
