PROFFESOR DR JALANI SUKAIMI currently is Dean at Faculty of Science & Technology, USIM. He graduated from University of Malaya in BAgricSc (Agronomy), University of Reading (PhD), Iowa State University (Post Doctoral Fellow), Harvard University (Yale, Cornell, etc), Fulbright Fellowship, Chartered Institute of Marketing, London (Diploma in Marketing), Market Development Institute, Geneva (Professional Dip in Export Marketing) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in Doctor of Science (DSc). He has many relevant experiences working with the oil palm industry for more than 23 years as the Director of Biology Division, Palm Oil Research Institute of Malaysia (PORIM), Deputy Director General, Palm Oil Research Institute of Malaysia (PORIM), Senior Research Fellow, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Board Member, Golden Hope Research, Golden Hope Plantations Company (owning ≠ 850,000 ha of oil palm plantations).
He also has membership of professional, social and recreational organisations/committees such as Fellow of Academy of Sciences, Malaysia, Fellow of Malaysian Scientific Association, a member of various professional organizations in Malaysia, England and USA, involved in social/community services (e.g. President of PTA) and sits on various institutional, national and international committees either as an academician or administrator. He has also published over 267 scientific articles in journals (national and international), symposia, conferences, etc, and edited 24 proceedings plus one book (with DBP). He was also the co-editors (Yusof Basiron, Jalani Sukaimi and Chan Kook Weng) of 1526-page on Advances in Oil Palm Research: Volume I and II published by Malaysian Palm Oil Board in August 2000.
The research achievements that he was involved in and successfully released are rice varieties which have resistant genes to blast and brown planthopper, oil palm parental genotypes which have very high yield, high quality oil and dwarf for large scale planting, Mechanical loader, infield transporters (supercrawler, rambo, wakfoot) and loose-fruit collector which reduce the labour requirement, easing the task, increase productivity thus reducing the cost of production and development of particleboard, fibreboards, pulp and paper, etc. from oil palm biomass.
